Maisie Peters Releases Highly Anticipated New Single ‘Cate’s Brother’

Updated: Jul 30

Maisie Peters is back with her latest single ‘Cate’s Brother.’ After the success of her debut album You Signed Up For This, the singer has been busy touring on her own and as an opener on Ed Sheeran’s ‘The Mathematics Tour’ in UK and Europe.

‘Cate’s Brother’ has quite the origin story. On February 22, 2022, Peters tweeted “guys shall I do something deeply insane yes or no" and sent everyone over on TikTok where she explained she wrote a song about falling in love with her best friend’s brother that no one from her best friend’s family had heard. The TikTok included a clip of the song that quickly gained almost half a million views. What ensued was a long journey to get to the point of its release. Peters continued to tease the song on TikTok and playing it at shows before officially releasing it. The hype was definitely worth it.

Now the time is finally here and ‘Cate’s Brother’ is out in the world. ‘Cate’s Brother’ is a pop-punk anthem filled with heavy electric guitar riffs and lyrics that are jam-packed with details that tell the full story of the song from start to finish. With multiple mentions of Canada, I think this will make many Canadian fans very happy. If you’re looking for a new song to scream in your car at full volume, look no further because this song is it.

Despite what the end of the song says, Peters says she is not actually dating Cate’s brother, but he was a good sport about the song. All's well that ends well for Peters since she gets to release a fun, witty song and not have things be awkward with Cate’s brother.

Favorite Lyric: The entire second verse! “He has these eyes so blue // He’s 6 foot 2 and a little younger than me // We go on cinema dates With Tommy and Cate True Love in 3D // He’s fun and weird and smart // Likes cheap cigars and can shotgun a beer like no other // Grabbed his hand in the dark and I pull him to the car // And the speakers play Nirvana
